We are delighted to share that Aliyyah-Begum Nasser, Operations Director at Askham Rehab, has been voted Rehab Leader of the Year at the NR Times Awards 2025. This public-voted national award recognises leaders who are shaping the future of neurorehabilitation through innovation, compassion and a strong commitment to community-centred care.
As part of Askham Village Community, Askham Rehab is built on a foundation of collaboration, family values and continuous improvement. Aliyyah’s leadership has been central to strengthening this culture and driving the organisation’s growth as a forward-thinking neurorehabilitation centre.
A leader committed to innovation in rehabilitation
Aliyyah is widely known for her instinct to bring something new to both clinical practice and the wider rehabilitation journey. Under her leadership, Askham Rehab has continued to invest in innovative approaches, from technology-enhanced therapy to enriched resident experiences, always guided by the question: How can we do more?
Her ability to balance strategic thinking with genuine warmth and connection has shaped the organisation’s reputation for person-centred, progressive rehab services.
Reflecting on the award, Aliyyah shared: “I am deeply honoured by this recognition and incredibly touched that so many people took the time to vote. This award reflects the work of a truly exceptional team: colleagues, clinicians, partners and families who believe in delivering rehabilitation that is ambitious, compassionate and forward-thinking. I’m proud of what we have built together, and this inspires me to keep pushing for what’s possible.”
Strengthening teams, services and the whole Askham community
As Operations Director, Aliyyah’s influence extends far beyond strategy. She plays an active role in fostering a supportive, collaborative culture where staff feel empowered and residents feel genuinely cared for.
Donna Smith, Manager for Rehab and Nursing Services, reflected on the impact of her leadership: “Aliyyah’s leadership has been instrumental in strengthening our services, supporting our teams and ensuring our residents experience rehabilitation that is both innovative and meaningful. Her passion encourages all of us to aim higher and continually evolve what we do.”
This commitment to people (staff, residents, families and the local community) is what makes Askham Rehab such a unique part of Askham Village Community. It is a place where professionals learn together, families feel involved and residents remain at the heart of every decision.
A culture of collaboration and possibility
Askham Rehab’s progress in recent years has been shaped by a culture of curiosity, creativity and partnership. Clinical Lead Lyndsey Marie captured this shift: “The culture of collaboration and possibility that defines Askham Rehab today exists because Aliyyah believed we could do more, and then inspired all of us to make it happen. Her leadership has transformed our approach to rehabilitation – championing innovation, investing in people, and ensuring every individual and family feels genuinely supported.”
Her words reflect the collective sentiment within Askham Rehab: this award is not only a celebration of Aliyyah’s achievements but also a recognition of the direction she has set for the future of rehab at Askham.
A meaningful win for Askham Rehab
Being voted Rehab Leader of the Year is a powerful acknowledgement of the trust and respect Aliyyah has earned from colleagues, partners, families and the wider neurorehabilitation community.
It also highlights the ongoing work taking place at Askham Rehab, a neurorehab centre where innovation is encouraged, community is valued, and each individual’s rehabilitation journey is supported with compassion and ambition.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted, supported the nomination and celebrated alongside us. Congratulations also to all nominees and winners at the NR Times Awards 2025 for their contributions to improving outcomes in neurorehabilitation.
